The International Cricket Council (ICC) might move the 2023 ODI World Cup out of India due to tax issues with the country’s government. India is the host of the tournament, which is scheduled to take place next year in October-November.
ICC has asked the BCCI to get tax exemptions from the government. The apex body has a policy of getting tax benefits from the host country. However, there is no progress on the matter, according to Cricket Addictor.
The Indian government has given no tax benefits to the ICC for the 2016 T20 World Cup.
BCCI has informed ICC that nothing can be done in this matter, and the apex body is free to take to decide its next move.
ICC deducted INR 190 crore from the BCCI’s share as a tax surcharge in 2016 for failing to get the government’s nod.
If the government doesn’t agree in the present case, ICC will be left with three options.
Firstly, it must convince the members to let go of the taxes.
Secondly, the World Cup can be shifted out of India. Lastly, ICC can deduct the amount from India’s share.
