In both matches, India had things under control for the first 10 overs but conceded a lot of runs in the second phase of SA's chase.

India have made considerable improvement in the powerplay overs, an area which has impacted the team on many occasions in the past.

Ishan has batted well for the Men in Blue at the start of the innings, and former player Gautam Gambhir heaped massive praise on the batter as he backed him for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Ishan Kishan has so far scored 55 runs in the powerplay in 41 balls across two innings at a strike rate of 134.1. India have been looking for a player who can dominate the rival bowlers in T20Is, and Ishan has proven his worth.

Speaking to Star Sports after India’s match against South Africa in Cuttack, he would keep Ishan in the playing XI even when Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli return. He also urged head coach Rahul Dravid to keep Ishan in the scheme of things.

“When you talk about x-factor, Ishan Kishan comes to my mind. He should continue as an opener even when Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul come back. He would play an important role in Australia during the ICC T20 World Cup. So if he is in the scheme of things, play him till the global event,” he said.

While Kohli and Rohit have both been rested for the South Africa series, Rahul was ruled out after injuring his groin.
