Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar, who is an avid Mumbai Indians fan, recently hogged the internet after the 73-year-old was seen running towards MS Dhoni for an autograph on his shirt during CSK’s leap of honour for the Chennai crowd after their last home group stage game at the Chepauk.
Since then, CSK beat Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier and will again meet the defending champions on May 28 in the finals at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Gujarat are looking to win their second straight IPL team, while CSK are eyeing MI’s record of five titles. Ahead of the all-important final, Gavaskar revealed that he would be supporting Chennai despite Gujarat being the best side of IPL 16, purely for his love for MS Dhoni, who is speculated to be playing in his last season.
“CSK have always been my favourite side after Mumbai. I want Chennai to win purely because of MS Dhoni. He has been excellent as a skipper with his cool-headedness and decisions. Another trophy would be nice. Although, Gujarat Titans are the best side of the tournament, and have got a great opener in the form of Shubman Gill.”
