Team India’s main spinner, R Ashwin, has recalled India vs Australia Sydney Test of the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where the Australian players sledged him during his match-saving innings.
Fielding at forward short leg, Matthew Wade was after Ashwin and Hunama Vihari as the former was hit several times.
“When I got hit, Mathew Wade started making fun of me. He’s like ‘Aah’ and all that in front of my face. And I get like, ‘He’s making a mickey out of this. And I must show who I am. I have not gone into such a zone before or after. I go into a zone of saying it’s either you or me,” Ashwin said on the documentary ‘Bandon Mein Tha Dum’ streaming on VOOT.
“On one of the balls, my spikes got stuck. Matthew Wade started laughing. ‘Hahaha, that’s so agri and all that stuff’. I put a chest guard on, and the Aussie players also started making fun of it. The more they sledged, the more confident we became.”
