After India’s win in the T20I series in New Zealand, the focus has shifted to ODIs, where Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Men in Blue.
The visitors will play three matches against the Kiwis. Dhawan led the team earlier as well. Speaking ahead of the first ODI, Dinesh Karthik backed stand-in skipper Dhawan to feature for Team India at the 2023 ODI World Cup.
“He will definitely play in the ODI World Cup in 2023. The selectors could have easily moved on from him, but he has been retained, which shows his value in the ODIs,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.
Karthik recalled Dhawan’s century against Australia in the 2019 World Cup. However, he was ruled out of the tournament with a thumb injury. “He did well in the 2019 World Cup before getting injured. He can be trusted as an opener. He knows his game and stays at the crease,” he added.
