Former Indian chief selector MSK Prasad was full of praise for Dinesh Karthik. The 37-year-old has made a comeback to the Indian squad after a hiatus of 2 years.

Karthik last featured for India at the 2019 World Cup. However, his colossal form for RCB as a finisher has made his selection inevitable said MSK Prasad.

“It is impressive how he performed in certain situations. I have not seen Dinesh Karthik in this state of mind in the last one and half-decade. He is in the best frame of mind, so that’s a reason,” he told NDTV.

If we glance back on Karthik’s career, he was a part of India’s first-ever T20 back in 2006. Although, for the majority of his career, he was a backup for MS Dhoni. After MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant became the obvious choice for the selectors.

When there weren’t many opportunities left for Karthik at the international level, he amazed the cricketing fraternity with his hard-hitting form.

“He made his selection inevitable. Now that he is here again, he will get his opportunities and can make an impact. Not many players are there in that particular role (finishers). The selectors would probably have felt to give him one last try because of the form he exhibited in the IPL 2022.”

Karthik scored 360 runs in 16 matches at an average of 55 and a strike rate of 183.33. He also won the Super Striker of the Season award.
