The ICC World Cup 2023 begins on October 5. The last date to submit the preliminary squad for the prestigious tournament is September 5. The biggest headache for the selectors is to fixate on a player for the No.4 position, as the Men in Blue were in a similar position in 2019.
While KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer lack match practice and Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson are out of touch, it would be a tough call for the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee. Amid this, former India head coach Ravi Shastri recently popped up with the idea of having Virat Kohli play at the No. 4 position.

His thoughts created a big debate among cricket experts, as several pundits, including Gautam Gambhir, rejected this idea. However, the 60-year-old has found a supporter in the form of AB de Villiers.
ABD and Virat share a great camaraderie and are quite close on and off the pitch. De Villiers advocated for Virat to bat at No.4 and remarked that it would be perfect for the ex-India skipper.
“I have heard rumours that Virat might take up the No. 4 position, and I would be the biggest supporter for that,” AB said on his YouTube channel.
“He is perfect for that position. Although, he might not prefer leaving his No.3 position because of the success he had there. However, when the team requires you to adapt to a new position, you agree to it.”
