Mumbai Indians registered their biggest win of the season after they beat Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs to qualify for Qualifier 2.
MI’s journey this season has inspired several experts, as the Rohit Sharma-led side were at the bottom half of the table halfway through the season and still managed to qualify for the playoffs.
Hailing MI’s performance against LSG, former India opener Sunil Gavaskar spoke highly about skipper Rohit Sharma and remarked that the hitman is underrated and deserves more credit for his leadership skills.
Citing the example of Akash Madhwal, who took a five-wicket haul, Gavaskar stated that Rohit had asked him to come around the wicket, which helped him get rid of Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Bafoni in the same over.
“Rohit is underrated. He has won five titles. When Madhwal got Ayush Badoni’s wicket, Rohit asked him to come round the wicket, which helped him get Nicholas Pooran out.”
“It was a brilliant move by Rohit. Had it been CSK and MS Dhoni as the captain, everyone would have said, ”Dhoni plotted Pooran’s wicket.’ You have to give Rohit more credit.”
