Former India opener Gautam Gambhir said Virat Kohli’s 82 against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2022 was better than his Mohali masterclass against Australia in 2016.
Virat hit 6 fours and 4 sixes to finish on 82 off 53 balls at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Kohli had played a similar knock against Australia in Mohali during the 2016 T20 World Cup.
Virat had scored an unbeaten 82 runs against the Aussies. “The current knock was played in Australia and against a quality bowling line-up. So it has to be up there probably better than the Mohali innings,” said Gambhir.
Kohli and Hardik Pandya helped India to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in front of a packed 90,000-plus crowd.
Chasing 160, India were reeling at 45 for 4 but Kohli and Pandya (40) stitched 113 runs for the fifth wicket to bring their team closer to victory.
Gambhir said Virat’s lofted backfoot straight drive on Haris Rauf’s delivery was probably the shot of the tournament.
Earlier, Virat had also rated his MCG masterclass above Mohali’s innings.
