KL Rahul has been declared fit and added to the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.

Post-IPL, The Men in Blue have experimented with several opening combinations in the absence of their regular openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.

Rohit Sharma, who missed cricket due to COVID and rest, is back in the side, but concerns remain for KL Rahul. The 30-year-old has not played any cricket after the IPL.

He missed the Proteas series and England tour due to a groin injury while he is out of the Caribbean tour due to COVID-19.

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris has expressed his concerns for the LSG captain.

Styris opined it would be tough for KL to fit into the side since he would be low on confidence after missing so much cricket. Additionally, players have grabbed their opportunities who have played in his absence.

Speaking to ‘Over The Top’, he said, “SKY and Rishabh Pant have batted beautifully in KL’s absence and have posed certain questions to the selectors.”

He added, “The selectors must be thinking, do we need KL Rahul? Is he going to be in form when he comes back? I believe Rahul has a lot at stake once he returns and would be under the scanner.”

It is worth noting that KL Rahul’s prolonged absence has reportedly forced selectors to look at Hardik Pandya as the new permanent vice-captain in the T20 format.
