Saba Karim has slammed Avesh's critics and said that if you have invested in youngsters for a long time, you can't leave them stranded.

Ever since the BCCI released the 15-member squad for the Asia Cup, several experts have opined on the selection.

Many were baffled by the selectors choices. They questioned Avesh Khan’s selection over Mohammed Shami.

Krishnamachari Srikkanth had slammed the selectors for picking an inexperienced Avesh over Shami.

The team is already without Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. According to him, Shami would have fit the squad better.

However, Saba Karim has slammed Avesh’s critics and said that if you have invested in youngsters for a long time, you can’t leave them stranded.

Speaking with Sports 18, he said, “I feel that after investing in youngsters for a long time, they deserve trust and not exclusion from the team. They haven’t done anything wrong and would gain experience through such situations.”

He further commented on Shami, who hasn’t played a T20I since November last year.

Karim said, “I admit that Shami’s presence is important, especially in absence of Bumrah, but I also agree with the selectors’ decision of going ahead with a young bowler.”

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan are the three frontline seamers, with Hardik Pandya coming in as the 4th option.
