Chennai Super Kings (CSK) played their first home game of IPL 2023 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The pitch in Chennai is generally known to be slow and spin-friendly, which has helped CSK’s spinners dominate their home matches in the past.

However, the pitch wholly transformed for the first game, which surprised former CSK star Ravichandran Ashwin. In the past, CSK’s spinners have dominated matches in Chennai, with Royal Challengers Bangalore getting all out for just 70 runs back in 2019. However, tonight’s game was an entirely different story, as CSK were invited to bat first by LSG skipper KL Rahul.

The home side has scored 217/7 runs in 20 overs, which is a rare sight in Chennai. Ravichandran Ashwin, who is currently playing for the Delhi Capitals in this year’s IPL, took to Twitter to express his surprise at the high-scoring pitch in Chennai. He wrote, “High-scoring thriller? This is a Chepauk wicket from the past. Wow #windtheclockback #CSKvsLSG.”

Ashwin’s tweet undoubtedly grabbed the attention of cricket fans worldwide, who are excited to see how the match will unfold.

CSK won the game by 12 runs in the end. LSG were on the course of a splendid win, but a regular fall of wickets after a brilliant opening partnership between Kyle Mayers and KL Rahul resulted in their downfall.
