With the announcement of Team India’s squad for the T20I series in New Zealand, the end of Dinesh Karthik and R Ashwin’s careers has been confirmed.
The ongoing ICC T20 World Cup in Australia is their last assignment for the Men in Blue.
Karthik doesn’t feature in any other format, so the question of resting him doesn’t arise.
For Ashwin, he is a regular in Test cricket, but there have been few red-ball games in recent times because of ICC T20 World Cup.
Moreover, he wasn’t included in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand and Bangladesh.
The veteran will only feature in a Test series in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma said that Karthik was not picked to manage his workload, although he hinted that the selectors are now looking towards a different setup for the next ICC T20 World Cup.
