Hardik Pandya ODI captain
Kapil Dev feels if the BCCI has decided to go ahead with Hardik, he should be backed.

Team India’s ODI captaincy will be up for grabs after the 2023 World Cup. Hardik Pandya has already taken over in T20Is and is a front-runner to replace Rohit Sharma after the global event in India. Rohit is likely to step down to focus on Test cricket. However, there is a big question mark on the fitness of Hardik as he is injury prone.

Meanwhile, Hardik has won three T20I series as a captain. He led the team in Ireland and New Zealand and, most recently, against Sri Lanka at home.

Former India captain Kapil Dev feels if the BCCI has decided to go ahead with Hardik, he should be backed for a long time despite making errors.

“They should not sack him if he loses a series, as this is not how captaincy is managed. Hardik should be backed for long-term instead of going series by series. Rahul and Dhawan were in the race, but their poor performances with the bat have made Hardik the front-runner for the post,” Kapil told Gulf News.

Hardik also led Gujarat Titans to the Indian Premier League title in 2022.
