Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has defended Babar Azam on his strike rate in T20Is. Butt said Babar won the ICC Men’s Player of the Year and the Men’s ODI Player of the Year awards for 2022.
Butt believes if Babar’s strike rate was such a big problem, he wouldn’t have been among the best batters in the world.
The 38-year-old mentioned that Babar has contributed with the bat whenever Pakistan have chased down big totals.
“Babar Azam’s critics have been targeting him over his strike rate. Either stop giving him the best player awards or don’t go after him. You can’t be criticized for your strike rate and be the world’s number one simultaneously,” he said.
“Whenever Pakistan have won while chasing a big total, Babar and Rizwan have been among the runs. It can’t be the case that the team won while chasing a total of 200, and his strike rate wasn’t upto the mark.”
