Dinesh Karthik, who scored 10 off 2 balls and had a strike rate of 500.00, broke MS Dhoni.

India are gearing up for a busy white ball calendar in the near future. There is a ICC T20 World Cup in October and a 50 over ICC World Cup next year.

More or less, the squads are shaping up for both formats. Although, there are a few spots up for grabs.

Ever since the re-emergence of Dinesh Karthik, a host of experts have backed the 37-year-old over Rishabh Pant, who has not yet cemented his place in the white ball team as he has in Test cricket.

Going by his aggressive style of cricket, it was predicted that he would be successful in limited-overs cricket and struggle in the red ball arena. Whereas, in reality, it’s the complete opposite.

Besides the match-winning maiden century knock against England in the final ODI this year, the 24-year-old hasn’t achieved much in T20Is and ODIs. Thus, he has faced competition from his peers, especially Dinesh Karthik in T20Is.

Former chairman of selectors and legendry Indian spinner Chandu Borde has backed Pant and opined his views on the matter.

“There is no competition for Pant in the team. He is not just a finisher. He can play at any position with the same aggression. Thus, he faces no competition from Karthik or no one for that matter. He is an automatic choice for the team.”

Borde further heaped praise for the southpaw and added, “Pant has achieved so much in such a short period. It’s unbelievable. He is set to reach new heights in upcoming years.”

Rishabh Pant has been rested for the team’s current tour to Zimbabwe.
