Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram feels Mahendra Singh Dhoni will always be a part of Chennai Super Kings as you can’t separate the two. Dhoni has been associated with the franchise from day one and led them to give titles since the inception of the tournament in 2008.
In IPL 2023, Dhoni’s CSK defeated Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets to lift the trophy for the fifth time. Akram said Dhoni would work as a mentor or president of the franchise after retiring from the game.
“He is a gem of a cricketer. Winning titles in a big tournament like IPL is not easy. There are 10 teams, and you play 14 games to qualify for the playoffs. You give Dhoni any team, and he will lead it to title triumph,” he told Sportskeeda.
“CSK is a legendary team in one of the most difficult tournaments in the world. Whenever Dhoni quits cricket, he will return to a different role with CSK. He will become their mentor or president. You can’t separate Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings,” he added.
