Famous sports journalist Ben Horne of the News Corp outlet has reported that Cricket Australia is mulling revoking the leadership ban on David Warner.
Warner, Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft were found guilty of ball-tampering, famously known as the ‘sandpaper-gate scandal’.
In the aftermath of the 2018 scandal, Warner, who happened to be the vice-captain, was banned for 12 months. Additionally, he was given a lifetime ban from leading any team in Australia. At the same time, Steve Smith served a 12-month leadership ban.
David Warner is a global T20I star and a wanted man by every franchise. The Big Bash League faces a lot of competition from other T20 leagues.
Cricket Australia is trying to better its financial state. Revoking Warner’s ban is also a part of the efforts. It is believed that the major reason behind it is the possibility of losing him to a rival league. Hence with BBL clubs showing interest in Warner as a captain, the CA is likely to revoke his ban.
David Warner was the top performer in Australia’s ICC T20 World Cup title. He was named the Man of the Tournament.
