The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is a cricket team based in Bangalore which participates in the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore was founded in 2008 by United Spirits. It is named after the company’s liquor brand Royal Challenge.
The Royal Challengers have not won the IPL but finished runners-up on three occasions 2009, 2011, and 2016. They also qualified for the playoffs in 2010, 2015, 2020, 2021, and 2022. The team’s current captain is Faf Du Plessis, and the coach is Sanjay Bangar.
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, also known as Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium, is the home ground for the Royal Challengers. It is named after M. Chinnaswamy, the BCCI President from 1977 to 1980 who served the KSCA. Since the BCCI chose Bangalore as the centre for the National Cricket Academy in 2000, many budding cricketers have passed out of the academy housed on this ground. The maximum capacity is 40000.
IPL 2023 divides teams into 2 groups (A and B). Each team will play 7 home and 7 away games.
In the group stage, each team will face the other four teams in their group 2 times each (one home and one away game) and four teams in the other group once and the remaining two times.
