Prithvi Shaw hasn’t been able to return to international cricket despite his magnificent performances in domestic cricket. Many former players have backed the young opener and want the selectors to include him in the squad.
He was the second highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 336 runs at a super strike rate of 181.42.
Former India player Gautam Gambhir said that it is the duty of the selectors and the coaching staff to keep the focus of a player of Shaw’s quality on a right track.
“What are coaches (Rahul Dravid and others) there for? What is the duty of selectors?” Gambhir asked. “There are not there to just select the team or give throw-downs to players. Prithvi Shaw is a very talented cricketer and the current coach and the selection committee should keep him on the right track,” said Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir urged Rahul Dravid to talk to the right-handed batter having worked with him at the U19 level.
“Rahul Dravid should speak to him. Prithvi Shaw had a great start to his career. It is the duty of selectors and the team management to keep him in the mix,” he added.
Gambhir further said that Shaw needs to show hunger for runs.
“If you are passionate to play for your country, you should keep your fitness and performance upto the mark. If he is willing to work hard and perform well, there is no way he can’t play for India.”
