Chennai Super Kings had a rough Indian Premier League 2022 campaign.

Chennai Super Kings were not supposed to play in the Indian Premier League, according to team owner N Srinivasan.

Srinivasan, who was the then treasurer of the BCCI, had to convinced the senior members of the board to include a Chennai-based franchise in the tournament.

“Chennai is one of the oldest Test centres of India. So why should a Test centre be left out of league? I took special permission from the then BCCI President, Sharad Pawar, to allow India Cements, of which I am the Managing Director, to buy a franchise,” said Srinivasan.

According to him, the team is closely associated with the fans. They were the ones who suggested the name Chennai Super Kings.

He revealed what makes CSK different from other teams in IPL. “Players are free to do what they want. We don’t interfere in their lives,” he added.

“We don’t question players after poor performances like other franchises. We haven’t changed support staff for years.”
