Glenn Maxwell reveals the details of his horror injury which injured his leg

Shortly after Australia’s disappointing exit from the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup, their talismanic batter Glenn Maxwell suffered a freak injury at his friend’s party when the 34-year-old broke his leg and was ruled out of the action for three months.

Ten days after the injury and successful surgery, Maxwell has opened up on his horror injury and narrated the flow of the events in an interview with Cricket Australia.

A bed-ridden Maxwell appeared on CA’s Unplayable Podcast and revealed how he got injured.

“I was at an official’s birthday party from my premier cricket side Fitzroy-Doncaster. I met one of my mates, who was also my school teacher. We laughed at a joke, and then I pretended to chase him.”

“It was raining a little, and their backyard did not have proper grass. It was synthetic. We took just three-four strides and slipped at the same time. I just got my foot stuck a little bit, and he, unfortunately, fell at a really bad angle and landed straight on my leg.”

My bone just snapped, and I heard and felt every part of it. It was pretty painful. I was screaming a bit, and he was like, ‘please tell me you’re joking, please tell me you’re joking.”

Maxwell added that he had to wait 40-45 minutes for the ambulance before the group decided to take him to the hospital in a car.

“That was the most painful car ride I have ever had. I knew I broke my fibula. I heard it snap in half. I also ruptured all my ligaments.”

Maxwell expressed the frustration of being out of action for two months, which could probably delay his Test return.

Maxwell concluded, “I have done more dumb things on and off the field but never came close to injuring myself. But what happened on the 13th was frustrating.”
