Gautam Gambhir IPL
Former India player Gautam Gambhir has slammed the critics of the league.

Indian players are facing heat for giving importance to the Indian Premier League over international matches. The criticism has grown after India’s exit from the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. Wasim Akram had pointed out that India never won a T20 World Cup after the introduction of IPL in 2008, while Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at cricketers for skipping international fixtures for the T20 tournament.

Former India player Gautam Gambhir has slammed the critics of the league. Speaking at the TURF2022 & India Sports Awards of FICCI, Gambhir opined that it is not right to point fingers at IPL, which is the best thing to happen to Indian cricket.

“IPL is the best thing to happen to Indian cricket. IPL has faced a lot of backlashes since it started. The moment Indian players fail, the blame is put on IPL. If they don’t perform well in ICC events, blame them, not the league,” said Gambhir.

The two-time World Cup winner also lauded the BCCI for appointing Indian coaches over the last couple of years and further said that the time has come we have more Indian coaches in IPL as well.
