Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been named the ICC men’s ODI player of 2022. He scored 679 runs from nine matches, averaging 84.87 with three centuries.
He was sensational last year and held the No.1 ranking in one-day internationals. The 28-year-old made his performance count as he smashed three hundreds and five half-centuries.
Pakistan’s sole defeat in the 50-over format came against Australia and he was an easy selection for the ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year award in 2022.
Babar’s 114 against Australia was the best performance from his bat. It was a must-win game for Pakistan after they lost the series opener. The sub-continent team chased down a huge target of 349 runs for the loss of just four wickets.
Openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq added 118 runs. Babar came out to bat when his team needed 231 from 187 balls. He completed his hundred in 73 balls, his fastest ever in ODI cricket, and was there at the crease until the 45th over. The rest of the batters finished the job.
