Pakistan mentor Matthew Hayden gave his final speech of the T20 World Cup 2022 after the Men in Green lost the title match to England by 5 wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. On Sunday, Pakistan bowlers tried their best but failed to defend 137 in another heartbreaking loss in the World Cup.
The Men in Green had lost in the semis last year. The Pakistan Cricket Board shared a video of Hayden’s speech from the dressing room.
“It was good to see players who didn’t get a game turning up in net sessions. I hope you guys feel proud of the achievements of this playing group. I want to say thank you for sharing your dressing room with me, sharing your hearts, your minds, and your spirits. You gave you 100 percent in this campaign,” said Hayden.
“I want to say on behalf of the support staff that we feel very privileged and honored to be a part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 journey. When we shared a meal at my home before the World Cup, I was confident that you would lift the trophy. Now that hasn’t changed. I am still confident that this group can win a World Cup,” he added.
“Come to the World Cup in India again; we will celebrate before the event. It was amazing that we made it to the finale. I know you are hurt but accept the reality that we came close. We have discussed the future, and the results will happen,” he consoled the team.
“So, guys, I am proud of you. Thank you for being with me, and I hope I was able to share my heart and my story with you guys. I am always honoured,” Hayden concluded.
