In the IND vs AUS 2023 World Cup final, Anil Kumble expressed his belief that Suryakumar Yadav should have batted above Ravindra Jadeja. Kumble suggested that the Indian team management should have supported Suryakumar to bat at No.6 in the ODI World Cup final against Australia.
During a discussion on ESPNcricinfo after India’s six-wicket loss to Australia in the final, Kumble highlighted the decision to send Jadeja ahead of Suryakumar.
“Concerns about Suryakumar Yadav getting out shouldn’t be there. When setting a target, you don’t need such worries. Give opportunities to the best players despite the situation. India should have had Suryakumar bat before Jadeja because he is the superior batter, and you anticipate him handling those overs,” he said.
Suryakumar Yadav, however, struggled to accelerate towards the end of the innings, scoring just 18 runs from 28 balls. India got bowled out for 240 in the crucial encounter. Australia successfully chased down the target with six wickets in hand and seven overs to spare, securing their sixth ODI World Cup trophy.
