Former England captain Alastair Cook has lauded Joe Root for his performances in Test cricket. Playing the first Test under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, Root scored a century in the fourth innings.

Root became the second batter after Cook to complete 10,000 runs in Test format.

Speaking to BBC, Cook reacted to Joe’s landmark and called the player the most complete batsman he has ever seen for England.

He is a pleasure to watch, the most complete England batsman I have seen,” he said.

“The player who could play the most incredible innings was Kevin Pietersen, but Joe Root is the most complete batsman in all three formats. His consistency is unbelievable. He is a very good player of spin,” he added.

The former England player predicted that Root would leave him behind in terms of runs.

Root became the only player in cricket history to reach 10,000 Test runs within 10 years of his Test debut.
