Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Suryakumar Yadav playfully teased his teammate Akash Madhwal following his exceptional five-wicket performance in the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). On Wednesday, May 24, MI dominated Lucknow, defeating them by a whopping 81 runs at the Chepauk Stadium.
Madhwal emerged as the star of the match, claiming 5/5 in just 3.2 overs, leading to Lucknow’s dismissal for a mere 101 while chasing a target of 183. In a video interview for the official IPL website, Madhwal expressed his determination to achieve even greater success and improve upon his current performance.
In response, Suryakumar humorously questioned whether Madhwal now had ambitions of securing a remarkable 10-wicket haul. Suryakumar remarked, “Ab kya 10 wickets lega?” (Are you going for 10 wickets now?)
Suryakumar acknowledged Madhwal’s modesty, stating that he wanted to excel further. He highlighted the significance of Madhwal’s spell in the game, as it came at a crucial moment when the team needed it the most.
Interestingly, Akash Madhwal joined the Mumbai franchise as a replacement for Suryakumar Yadav in the IPL 2022. Although he initially remained on the bench, his hard work paid off, earning him a place in the team for the ongoing season. With 13 wickets already to his name in seven matches, including a four-wicket and a five-wicket haul, Madhwal has proven to be a valuable asset for MI.
