Shahid Afridi and Ahmed Shehzad engaged in a heated discussion when they appeared on national TV over the latter’s ouster from the Pakistan team.
Both the them have hogged headlines recently but for different reasons. Afridi has been vocal in his stance on the One-Day format. Meanwhile, Shehzad hogged the limelight over his allegations on the PCB and Waqar Younis for ruining his career.
Pakistan TV channel Samaa TV invited them over and they engaged in a heated discussion. The topic of the conversation revolved around Shehzad’s claims of PCB ruining his career and his ouster from the team.
Notably, Shehzad last played for Pakistan in 2019. Although, he played most of his career under Afridi’s captaincy. Hence the former skipper was the best man to answer the question.
Afridi said, “Ahmed was targeted because of me because I supported him a lot. I gave him a lot of chances, which turned out to be a negative thing for him when I left captaincy. I think people thought he was my favourite.”
Afridi added, “I supported him a lot because I wasn’t finding an opener of his ability in Pakistan. He was performing as well. He couldn’t perform in all games, but he was targeted because of me.”
However, his comments didn’t go well with Shehzad, who opposed the favouritism remark.
Shehzad said, “Shahid bhai, listen. I don’t know why you said that. You’ve been an elder brother to me. You can say anything to me. Sometimes, it does hurt me, but you have always been an elder brother.”
Afridi quickly interrupted Shehzad and said I want you to score runs.
To which Shehzad reiterated that where should he score runs? At home? Notably, Kamran Akmal recently revealed that Shehzad is barred from entering the Pakistan training camp.
Shehzad said, “I keep saying that. I want to score runs, but at least don’t deny me the platforms where I can score. I will ask you when sides in PSL want to pick me, who comes in and says no? You tell me, where do I score runs? At my home?”
