AB de Villiers, former South African cricketer and one of the greats of IPL, recently praised KKR’s Rinku Singh for his consistent and stellar performance in the IPL 2023. KKR defeated Chennai Super Kings in a recent match to keep their playoff hopes alive. Despite restricting CSK to a score of 144-6, KKR faced a difficult start as they lost three important players within the powerplay, including Jason Roy, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Venkatesh Iyer. CSK’s spinners had been performing well throughout the tournament, so KKR was in a tough spot.
However, Rinku Singh, KKR’s designated finisher, teamed up with skipper Nitish Rana to put together a century partnership that put KKR on the path to victory. Singh played a pivotal role in the match and was eventually run out for 54 in 43 balls, while Rana remained unbeaten on 57. Singh has been a consistent performer for KKR throughout the season, playing multiple match-winning cameos. He even hit five sixes on five balls in a final over blitz against Gujarat Titans’ Yash Dayal to take KKR home.
Singh’s performance has been impressive this season, having scored 413 runs in 13 matches at an average of over 50. His consistency has earned him praise from AB de Villiers, who said that Singh deserves more MVP points for his excellent play. After winning the Man of the Match award, Singh commented that he bats in the same position in domestic cricket and plays the same way. He attributes his success to hard work, eating well, and always having power.
