The IPL 16 final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium was originally scheduled to start at 7:30 pm on Sunday, May 28.
However, due to persistent rain and hailstorms, the match officials decided to push the game to reserve day, which was Monday, May 29.
On the reserve day, the match commenced at the scheduled time and Gujarat Titans, batting first, posted 214/4 on the board, the highest total by a team in a final of the IPL. However, the chase got cut short, as rain interrupted play and CSK were 4/0 after just 0.3 overs.
Despite rain stopping early, the match had a long delay because of a huge patch of water on one of the practice wickets, which took a long time to be deemed fit to play.
