Virat Kohli, who recently became the fastest player to score 25000 international runs, bettering his idol Sachin Tendulkar’s record, appeared on the RCB podcast ahead of the 16th edition of the IPL, where he opened up on his dull phase and made stunning revelations about his camaraderie with MS Dhoni.
Virat, who debuted under MS Dhoni in 2008, has shared 11 years in the dressing room with the great man and has always spoken highly of the CSK captain. In the latest events, appearing on the podcast, Kohli hailed Dhoni for supporting him in his tough phase and said that the former keeper-batsman was the only person who reached out to him in his difficult times.
“Besides Anushka, who was the biggest strength for me in these three tough years as she closely saw how I felt, and what I went through, the other person who reached out to me was MS Dhoni. No other person than my wife, childhood coach, family and MS genuinely reached out to me.”
“The thing about him is that one can rarely get in touch with him because he does not look at his phone, so the chances are 99% of the time he will not pick up your call. It has happened to me twice, and when he texts me, he said ‘People forget to ask you how are you when they look at you as a strong individual’.”
Kohli stated that those words by Dhoni did wonders for him because he looks at MSD as someone who is mentally strong and very confident.
