India’s men’s cricket head coach Ravi Shastri has urged for patience amid raging protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act, saying that the amended act is going to benefit Indians in the long run. Speaking to CNN-News 18, Shastri commented on this controversial topic.

Shastri said that Govt. would have thought this through before coming with an act. He further added that if any changes need to made, it would be made by the govt. “I say guys be patient because I can see plenty of positives coming out of it in the long run. Think Indian, don’t think I am this, I am that. There are benefits coming your way. I am sure the government has thought about it. Now it is about the implementation. If there are still things that need to be tweaked here or there I am sure they will do it. For the benefit of India, for the benefit of Indians. I am speaking as an Indian here”, the head coach was quoted as saying.

Ravi Shastri delved into his playing days saying that he always thought of being an Indian first and other things such as caste and religion were secondary. He said, “Ever since I was 18 years of age I played for India, so I think Indian. I don’t think what nationality, ‘yeh, woh’ because in my team also there were all sorts. Different castes, different religions whatever but Indian”.
