Team India skipper Virat Kohli has been granted paternity leave by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and he will return to India after the first of the four-match Test series against Australia.
Virat and his wife, Anushka Sharma, are expecting the birth of their first child early in January while the first Test (Day-night) between India and Australia is scheduled to be played from December 17 – December 21 at the Adelaide Oval, under the lights.
In another development, the BCCI has also announced its revised squads for the tour Down Under. The selection committee met last night to take a call on the availability and unavailability of certain players. Notably, Rohit Sharma has been added to India’s Test squad while he’s been rested for ODI and T20I series to regain full fitness.
“At the selection committee meeting held on October 26th, 2020, Mr. Virat Kohli had informed the BCCI about his plans to return to India after the first Test in Adelaide. The BCCI has granted paternity leave to the Indian captain. He will return after the first Test against Australia in Adelaide,” BCCI said in a statement.
Elsewhere, Sanju Samson has been added to India’s ODI squad as an additional wicket-keeper batsman. Varun Chakravarthy, meanwhile, has been ruled out for the T20I series due to a shoulder injury.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer T Natarajan has been named his replacement after impressing in the ongoing IPL 2020 with his marquee bowling in death overs. As far as Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha are concerned, BCCI will take a final call on them later.
KKR pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti was picked as the extra bowler for the tour. However, he will not be traveling Down Under as the BCCI’s medical team is looking into his workload management.
