Generally, the Indo-Pak clash serves as the show stopper of the ICC events. But it is going to change in 2020 T20 Men and Women’s World Cup, which will be played in Australia. The arch-rivals won’t face each other in the group stage as revealed by the ICC.
India and Pakistan have faced each other in five ICC Men’s tournaments since 2011. They will also lock horns in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales, which is just a few months away.
Pakistan is currently at the top of the rankings in the shortest format while the Men in Blue are ranked second and that might have propelled the ICC to put them in different groups.
India have been placed in Group B alongside England, South Africa, Afghanistan, and two more teams will join the group after qualifying for the mega event. The top-eight teams have automatically qualified for the tournament. It is going to be a 12-team tourney.
The Men’s T20 World Cup will commence from October 18 and conclude on November 15.
The Groups
Group A: Pakistan, Australia, West Indies, New Zealand, Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2
Group B: India, England, South Africa, Afghanistan, Qualifier 3, Qualifier 4
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 will take place from February 21 to March 8 in 2020 in Australia. India and Pakistan won’t face each other in Women’s T20 World Cup as well.
