Marriages are made in heaven but the location changed to the Sydney cricket ground (SCG) on Sunday, December 29. As India and Australia locked horns in the second ODI of the three-match series in Sydney, a couple’s day out at the ground turned out to be quite an event when the man chose the venue to propose to his girlfriend.
All this unfolded during India's innings when Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer's partnership was flourishing. Former Australian cricketers Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne also joined in the fun from the commentary box at the SCG as the crowd eagerly waited for the girl's response.
"She Said Yes!" flashed on the screen as the crowd continued to cheer and Glenn Maxwell, who was fielding, also applauded the gesture. After the match, the couple, Dipen and Rose, spoke about the incident, while speaking to Sony Sports India, official broadcasters of India's tour of Australia.
On being asked whether he had always planned to propose to his girlfriend in front of so many people, Dipen said it was always 'Plan B' as he had planned on making the proposal in front of his family and friends.
"Well! To be honest, it was always 'Plan B'. 'Plan A' was to do it in front of 10 people, that was my friends and family but that couldn't happen because of the COVID-19 situation. So 'Plan B was to do it in front of 25,000 people," he said.
Rose said that she didn't saw this coming but expressed her delight over the proposal. "Completely overwhelmed. It's incredible and I'm so happy," she said.
The presenter, Ervin Holland, before signing off, gave the couple a successful marriage mantra. She said: "Happy wife, happy life." The Indian man then nodded his head affirmatively.
