Why KL Rahul should have been part of ODI team?

KL Rahul is one of the many youngsters who has proved his abilities in almost all of the opportunities given to him. He has shown constant improvement since his international debut in Test cricket vs. Australia in 2014. His constant improvement took him to another level when he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2016.

He was also included to India’s T20 squad in 2016 against the same opponent(Zimbabwe) in 2016. Still, he has not managed to make it to ODI team regularly. The last ODI he played was against Sri Lanka in August 2017. He was not involved in the Champions Trophy squad this year. Though he is a valuable member of T20 and Test squad, his non-inclusion in ODI team is questionable.

The stats support KL Rahul

If we look at the performances of KL Rahul both in Tests and T20I, it gets even more clear why he should be included in 50 overs squad.

In all of the 21 Tests KL Rahul has played, he has scored 1428 runs with the impressive average of 44.62. In 33 innings of these 21 tests, he has added 4 centuries to his name with his highest 199 coming against England in 2016. He has also scored 10 half centuries in his Test career so far.

In T20I, he is as good as in Tests. The recent example of his power hitting abilities was the second T20I against Sri Lanka where he scored 89 runs with the help of 8 sixes.

In 12 Twenty20 internationals he has played, KL Rahul has total of 458 runs and what is even more impressive is his average which is over 50.88. He has scored one century in this format of the game.
