Stop bowling leg-spin, bowl off-spin, Graeme Swann to R Ashwin

Former English spinner Graeme Swann has backed R Ashwin to come good against England in England.

He has thrown his weight behind Ashwin, calling him the best of the lot as far as Team India is concerned.

Ashwin has carved a niche for himself in the longest format of the game but his place has been taken by wrist spinners in the shorter formats.

“If I am the Indian captain, I will pick R Ashwin against England but he will have to leave his habit of bowling leg spin. He is good when he is bowling his real variations and not the recently adopted ones,” he said.

Ashwin has an exceptional track record whenever he has played in the sub-continent but he is still to deliver outside his comfort zone.

When asked about R Ashwin’s pretty ordinary track record in England, Swann had words of encouragement.

“England is the best place for off-spinners but I am not sure whether Team India has the same thinking or not. The thing with India is that it’s hot and the bowler gets tired, losing energy easily. However, over here in England, the temperature is bearable and one can bowl without losing his stamina,” he added.
