Oops... Pujara did it again: Equals 54-year old unwanted record

Cheteshwar Pujara was at his best on the first day of the Test match against Australia . He not only defied bowlers but also latched onto the scoring opportunities presented to him by rivals.

Despite losing wickets from one end, he continued to dig in deep, often hitting boundaries in one of his best Test innings.

He shielded lower order with his brilliant display, forming crucial partnerships with Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant and R Ashwin.

It was his effort which took India to above 250, a score that looked out of reach when half of the side was back in pavilion with not even 100 on the scoreboard.

Pujara’s brilliant knock came to an unfortunate end when he was run-out by Pat Cummins.

He has now been dismissed run out four times in 2018, which is the joint most overall along with former Australian captain Bill Lawry, who set this unwanted record in 1964. This is also the highest in the ongoing year and most for an Indian batsman in a year.
