Murali Vijay hits back at selectors in grand style

Axed Indian opener, Murali Vijay is making headlines with his brilliant century against Nottinghamshire in County Championship Division One at Nottingham.

Vijay stroked 15 fours on his way to 100 runs off 181 balls. He alongside Tom Westley ensured an easy win for Essex chasing 282 runs. The stylish Indian opener stitched a big partnership of 204 runs for the second wicket with Westley.

It is notable that the Tamil-Nadu opener had also scored a half-century in first innings of the game.

Not too long ago, the opener was struggling big time to score against England for India. But he has made it count in his very first game for English County side, Essex.

Vijay had opened in first two Tests for India. But he could merely manage runs at an average of 6.50, which is alarming for an opener. It was nothing new. The elegant batsman was part of all three Tests in South Africa, earlier, this year too, but there as well, he just averaged 14 for his 102 runs.

There was a time, when Vijay was India's best opener in tough conditions of South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia. Now, he is on the wrong side of the age, so it would be interesting to see whether selectors will pick him again or not. He was dropped after first three Tests from India squad in recently concluded series against England.
