Kohli is terrific and one of the best batsmen

The Indian captain was in awesome touch in 2017, scoring runs across formats and leading India to victories against big teams. However, the ongoing year, has not started on a good note for him, failing in the first outing in South Africa. Often labeled as one of the best batsmen, Virat Kohli is facing tough competition from Steve Smith, the skipper of Australia.

He had a fabulous Ashes series, making his bat to do all the talking and with consistent scores under his belt, he is been rate alongside Don Bradman, the greatest batsman ever to don cricket jersey. Debate around Virat Kohli and Steve Smith is going on since long, former cricketers taking side of one or the other, depending on their nationality or taste of cricket. Former South African skipper Kepler Wessels has given his opinion when asked about these two modern day greats.

“I think Kohli is terrific and I like the aggressive brand of cricket he plays. I like the way he can turn a match and the impact he has across all three formats. He is definitely one of the best batsmen at the moment. I like his personality and his aggression and the way he takes the game to the opposition. I think his leadership skills have been pretty good so far and it runs on the rest of the players.

“Look it’s always difficult to compare players because they play under different conditions, in different circumstances and also for different teams. They all have been superb in modern day cricket. But Kohli is more adventurous probably than the other three. Smith is just phenomenal in the way he puts runs together at the crease, Root is very correct (in his approach) as is Williamson,” he said.
