James Anderson rates these bowlers above himself

James Anderson, who recently crossed Glenn McGrath's tally of 563 Test wickets to become the most successful Test pacer feels the Aussie legend was a better bowler than him.

In his column for Fox Sports, the 36 years old wrote, “He was a much better bowler than me. This is not false modesty. I may have gone past his wicket tally, but I honestly believe McGrath’s bounce, relentless accuracy, aggression and ability to move the ball made him superior. He had everything.”

Jimmy Anderson also praised McGrath's fiery attitude. “I also loved McGrath’s attitude. He had plenty of a snarl on the field — a bit like me, I suppose — and was super-competitive. He hated giving away runs or not taking wickets. We’ve shared a beer a few times and he’s a cracking fellow. I listened to the way he prepared for games and it really helped me," wrote Anderson.

Jimmy, who picked up 24 wickets against India in the five-match Test series also opined that Dale Steyn is better than him. The veteran of 143 Tests wrote “Of the modern era, I’d happily tip my hat towards Dale Steyn. With his express pace, control, and swing, he’s better than me, too.”

James Anderson has 564 wickets at an average of 26.84 while Glenn McGrath scalped 563 wickets at an average of 21.64. The South African quick has taken 421 wickets at an average of 22.64.
