India mentions Sachin’s example on how sportsperson can spread social messages

The former Indian skipper has been an inspiration for many, working hard towards society after retiring from cricket. Sachin Tendulkar is associated with many social campaigns including sanitation with United Nations and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with the Indian government.

He has been lauded for his efforts. Taking him as an example, India as a nation has citied his example at the United Nation on how sportsperson can spread social message. Srinivas Prasad, the minister at India`s UN Mission, told a General Assembly session that personalities like Sachin Tendulkar can make a difference.

"As the national sport of India, which reaches millions of people in cities, towns and villages across the country, cricket and its stars provide a very important platform for spreading social messages, he said.

"Indian cricket`s greatest icon, Sachin Tendulkar, illustrates this... Tendulkar was part of a popular national campaign to promote hygiene among children which encouraged school children to wash their hands before eating food. Similarly, he has recently been a brand ambassador for the `Swachh Bharat` campaign," the minister added.
