I asked for rest – Hardik Pandya

The Indian all-rounder, who is making headlines because of his performance across formats , is not part of the team for the first two Test against Sri Lanka. It was speculated that in order to prevent him from serious injuries and to keep him fit for future assignments, Hardik has been rested by selectors.

He has come out, clearing the air on the whole issue. Taking a note of his tight schedule and the amount of cricket he has played over the course of last one year, Hardik decided that it was time for him to rest his body or face fitness issues. He informed about his desire for rest to Team India’s selectors, who were welcoming after hearing from their prized asset.

“To be honest, I asked for it. My body wasn’t up to it, I was getting niggles because of the amount of cricket that I have played. I want to play cricket when I am totally up for it when I can give my 100 percent. I am lucky that I have got this break. I will train in the gym during this break and improve my fitness. I won’t lie, I am really excited about South Africa series. I would like to use this break to improve my fitness for the series,” he said.
