Another “Virat” in making

Another “Virat” in making

Jharkhand has always been known to produce some young talents who eventually emerge as big names in the Domestic circuit. Carrying forward this legacy, another youngster Virat Singh is all set to make his name. In a conversation with us he opened up about his interests, family and much more.

  1. Congratulations Virat on your fighting half century. But the result still didn’t go in your favor so according to you what went wrong?
  2. Though, it was a Green track but being a batsman I cannot make any excuses. We should have stayed longer at the crease but its part and parcel of the game. In the second innings too we were unable to hold on and I got out at a crucial time as me and Sourabh were looking good before my dismissal.

  3. How have been your journey from the starting?
  4. I have been playing cricket for the last 9 years and have been a part of State cricket for the past 6 years. Talking about Ranji, I have been a part of the team for the last 2 years. I started with Ranji trophy one dayers and had a good decent experience. Infact my family members are also involved in this game professionally. My elder brother is a part of u-23 team of Jharkhand. I used to watch cricket in a ground near my home. So from there on it all started and I asked my father to make me join a proper academy where I got coaching from Venkat Ram.

  5. How supportive your family has been?
  6. Initially they used to ask me to study but as soon as I started performing well, the support from my family too increased.

  7. Last year you scored a hundred against Kerala. Tell us something about that.
  8. I was dropped from the previous game so I had that thing in back of my mind that I need to perform to cement my place in the team. Though, I was a bit under pressure but eventually went on to score a ton. The only thing I regret is getting out on exact hundred as I wanted to score more runs for my team.

  9. Which format do you like the most and why?
  10. I love to play “days” cricket because all big guns reckon days cricket as one of the best formats to judge a player and his ability.

  11. Who is your cricketing idol?
  12. I generally follow Kumar Sangakkara while batting as he is technically sound.

  13. Are you studying? If yes, then how do you manage your cricket and studies?
  14. I have just completed my 12th. I used to go school regularly till class 10th but after being picked up for Ranji I shifted to home studies. So I prepare myself just before the examination time.

  15. Which team would you like tochoose if IPL approaches you?
  16. I would love to be a part of Chennai Super Kings team as there is MS Dhoni.

  17. What are your future plans?
  18. I am looking forward to u-19 India in the near future and just focusing on to perform well for my team.

  19. Other than cricket which is your favorite sport?
  20. I play Table Tennis for fun.

  21. How difficult it was to emerge from a state like Jharkhand and make your name?
  22. Frankly, when I started playing Jharkhand was quite famous courtesy MS Dhoni. So for me it wasn’t that difficult to cope up.

  23. Virat, tell us something about your family.
  24. Well I have mother, father and two brothers in my family.

  25. Which player do you follow in Indian team?
  26. In India I like to follow Suresh Raina.
